Discover the historic charm of Tordesillas
Tordesillas, once a fortress against Moorish invasions, boasts a unique architectural and cultural heritage. Strolling through its Plaza Mayor, crossing its medieval bridge, or admiring the remnants of its ancient wall will transport you to another era.
The town’s most iconic treasure is the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara, built by Alfonso XI in 1350 and later converted into a convent by Pedro I the Cruel. Declared a Site of Cultural Interest, it is renowned for its Mudejar-style façade, Arab baths and the stunning Saldaña Chapel with its 15th-century campaign altarpiece.
Do not miss the San Antolín Church-Museum, featuring the splendid Alderete Chapel and sculptures by Juan de Juni, or the Church of Santa María, which blends Gothic and Escorial styles. Another must-see is the Treaty Houses, where the historic 1494 agreement between Spain and Portugal was signed.
Wine tourism in Tordesillas
Bodega Muelas, a family-run business spanning five generations, is the only active winery in Tordesillas, producing around 20,000 bottles per year.
This unique winery, whose origins date back to the 15th century (probably earlier), offers an extraordinary experience with its three-level underground structure carved into the rock beneath Tordesillas.
Tours are held every half hour, but it is advisable to book in advance, as private tours for couples are also available. For just €4 per person, you can explore this fascinating place. For a more immersive experience, €8 includes a tasting of the wines produced at the winery.
Additionally, they offer introductory courses and workshops for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of wine tasting.
